1. Was our redemption really purchased in hell?
Did Jesus taste spiritual death for every man?
Did his spirit and inner man go to hell in my place?
Was it really the physical death on the cross that paid the price for sins?
THE THEORY:
Some people say AND TEACH that Jesus had to die spiritually and go to hell for three days and be tormented by satan in order to purchase our complete redemption, but let us see what the word really says about it!
THE TRUTH:
- 1 John 1:7 "the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."
- Luke 22:20 " This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you. "
- Acts 20:28 "..the church of God which was purchased with his own blood."
- Matthew 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. "
- Ephesians 1:7 "In Him we have redemption thru His blood, the forgiveness of sins."
- Romans 5:9 "..justified by His blood. "
- Ephesians 2:13 "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made new by the blood of Christ. "
- Hebrews 10:19 "...having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus."
IN SUMMARY:
- Galatians 6:14 "God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of Lord Jesus Christ. "
- Revelation 1:5 "To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood."
Paul did not glory in any mythical spiritual death of Christ, nor did he speak of a glorious redemption completed in hell. NO! NO! NO!
It was in the cross that Paul centered his attention and gloried.
The shedding of Christ's blood which secured the forgiveness of sins, was made possible because it was blood poured forth in a violent sacrificial death made on our behalf. Romans 5; 8:9; 8:32; Ephesians 5:2; Galatians 3:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:10; Isaiah 53.
...the life of the flesh is in the blood..it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul. Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22.
Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified thru the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
IT DOESN'T GET MUCH PLAINER THAN THAT. You also can read Romans 7:4; Colossians 1:22; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18; 4:1, etc.
In the Old Testament, the sacrifice to God to atone for their sins was the physical death of animals. In the New Testament there is no further need for such animal sacrifices for we have the physical death of Jesus, the one, true and only perfect sacrifice by which sins of the man are atoned.
In another article we talked about "Did Jesus become sin on the cross."
Going back to Matthew 26:28 it says "This is my blood..which is shed for many for the remission of sins. "
It was talking about His physical death.
It did NOT say. This is my spirit which was tortured for you in hell for the remission of your sins. NO! NO!
It did NOT say: This is my spiritual death which atoned for your sins. NO! NO!
NO. WHAT IT DOES SAY IS: This is my BLOOD (his physical death under the sacrificial system.) which atoned for our sins because He was the perfect sacrifice. It is the blood sacrifice alone that OT atones.
- Ephesians 5:2 "...hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice To GOD. "
- Colossians 1:20-22: And having made peace thru the blood of his cross,..., yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh thru death, to present you holy...
COMMUNION IN THE NEW TESTAMENT:
- 1 Corinthians 10:16 " The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? "
- 1 Corinthians 11:24 "...Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. "
- 1 Corinthians 11:25 "...this cup is the new testament in my blood:this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. " See also John 6 and Philippians 2.8
There is no emblem for his spiritual death, because there is no spiritual death.
