The Original Sin
Our topic is "The original Sin."
Questions to be answered are as follows:
- Whose law was broken?
- Who determines the penalty?
1. Whose law was broken?
1st sin is in Genesis 3:7: "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."
They found themselves naked:
- They made aprons to cover themselves.
- They tried to make themselves acceptable to God by their own efforts for a covering.
But the Bible says:
- Isaiah 64:6 All our righteousness is as filthy rags
- Psalms 51:3 -- For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
- Psalms 51:4 -- Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight---
- Romans 14:12 -- So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
The Original Sin
The thing to remember here is that the sin was against God and not satan; consequently, we must meet or satisfy God's justice or law to get back in his graces - not satisfy satan. Satan has absolutely NO role in this process!
We don't either. It doesn't matter what we think. We must do it God's way.
2. Who determines the penalty?
- Genesis 3:8 "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden."
They knew that God would not be fooled so they hid, but God went looking for them.
When man hides God seeks - Aren't you glad!!
Remember that-- you can't hide from God.
- Luke 19:10 "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
They died spiritually (spirit couldn't commune with God) as soon as they sinned and they were looking for physical death when God found them.
But instead, God put a curse on man.
- Genesis 3:17 "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;"
God then provided a way of escape for them by killing innocent animals and shedding their blood and providing coats of skin for them (the first shedding of blood for sin).
God provides the sacrifice to atone for their sins.
If this seems unfair, think how "much more" unfair it seems that "Christ died for the ungodly" --Romans 5:6.
Throughout the old Testament the guilt of the transgressor is passed from himself the sacrifice and the innocence is transferred by imputation to the transgressor.
